Nature’s Answer Sambucus Elderberry Syrup

Nature’s Answer Sambucus Elderberry Syrup offers a daily serving of 2.5 mg derived from the juice concentrate of 12,000 mg Black Elderberries (Sambucus nigra). This product does not contain sugar, or any artificial flavors or colors. It is also gluten-free, non-GMO, alcohol-free and does not contain any benzoates, artificial preservatives, and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. These are impressive facts and a very positive base for this formula. However, it did not quite reach the level of potency that we were looking for. At the minimum, we look to find 3 grams of Elderberry extract, as opposed to the 2.5 grams found here. Additionally, there is a lack of essential ingredients, namely Vitamin C and Zinc, which have been shown in many clinical studies to enhance the positive effects of Elderberry. Overall though, we like this manufacturer and feel that they formulated a decent option. 

We appreciated the fact that this formula comes in a 16-ounce glass bottle. While the size is double many of the products we have reviewed, it also requires double the serving as it is lacking in the dose of Elderberries as well as other key ingredients that are backed by scientific research. Unfortunately, the glass bottle caused many problems for customers. Many reviews noted that it arrived as a cracked and leaking mess. 

When reviewing this product, we were pleased to see a price tag that suggests quality – not cheap, but not obscenely expensive. When it comes to good quality health products, most of the time, you get what you pay for. Wise Woman Herbals Elderberry Syrup

Wise Woman Herbals Elderberry Syrup is located in Oregon and has been producing botanical-based supplements since 1989 using ingredients sourced from the Pacific Northwest. We like this company’s commitment to natural ingredients and that it has a large range of supplements. We were, however, taken aback by its staggering price tag of $125 for 8 ounces of Elderberry syrup. Does this syrup really deliver such a potent punch to warrant this exorbitant cost?   

To get the entire picture of this product, we first looked at its source of Elderberries. Like most of the Wise Woman Herbals products, it is locally sourced. While we appreciate products made in the USA, we would be remiss if we didn’t note that most Elderberry products are sourced from European Black Elderberries (Sambucus nigra) due to their extremely high amount of naturally-occurring flavonoids. We were left slightly disappointed due to the lack of this potent Elderberry source.

Next, we examined the rest of the ingredient label to determine the dose and additional complementary ingredients. What we found instead was a proprietary blend of 0.6 ml of Elderberries. Not only are we kept in the dark about what else might be included in this proprietary blend, but it is clear that this dose is much less than what is found in other syrups.

Finally, we investigated customer reviews and looked for a money-back guarantee. We were pleased to find that while there are not many customer reviews, there are positive ones. However, we could not find any money-back guarantee. The best that is offered is a very limited return policy that does not allow the consumer to actually try this product. While we like the look and feel of this manufacturer, $125 is a lot to spend without any type of guarantee that this product will actually work.
